TPS63050: Soft start inquiry

Part Number: TPS63050

Hi,

Good day. I hope you are doing fine.

Our customer is using the TPS63050RMWR and they have question about its soft-start.
1. Does the Vout ramp quicker if SS pin is left floating (no capacitor connected) OR if a 1nF capacitor is connected to SS pin as per the application circuit?
2. What is the effect of leaving SS pin floating to Vout?

Additionally, do we have a formula to estimate the capacitor value for certain soft-start time?

Thank you for your support. Have a great day.

Regards,

Cedrick

  • Hi Cedrick,

    Thanks for reaching out.

The soft-start function is not well documented in the datasheet. I will have to check with the team and will get back to you by the end of the week. I am sorry for the delay. What I can tell you in the meantime:

    1. Vout ramps faster if the SS pin is left floating.
    2. Leaving SS pin floating makes the soft-start time shorter.

    Best regards,
    Milos

  • Hi Cedrick,

I just want to confirm what i already answered.

Unfortunately, we do not have a formula for estimating the soft start time, as it depends on many operating conditions.

    Best regards,
    Milos
