TPS1H200A-Q1: TPS1H200AQDGNRQ1 as current limiter

Part Number: TPS1H200A-Q1

Hi,

I am using TPS1H200AQDGNRQ1 as current limiter, it has maximum rating of 2.5A. while using in 2.5A, the power disspation in the IC is Rds(ON)*I^2, i am getting 12.5W. and junction temperature exceeds 600deg C and failing in thermal analysis.

Am i calculating it wrong or i have to select some other Ic with good thermal value.

  • Hi Mohammed,

    Welcome to E2E!

Can you verify your calculation again? Using Rds(on) @ 25C I get 1.25W = (200 mOhm = .2Ohm) (2.5^2). This allows for the temperature swing to be just below 60C and junction temperature below TSHUTDOWN if the ambient temperature is 105C.

For clarification, we do recommend using Rds(on) @ 150C to allow for worst case scenario. This gives 2.5W and can fall out of the operating temperature range.
