Hi!

Can LMZ22005 be used in parallel mode for more current capacity?

Hi Ser,

The LMZ22005 does not have any current sharing circuitry to help ensure modules are sharing the load current evenly. We do have other modules that would be better suited. What is your overall input and output voltage and current requirements?

We have two different output voltages +1.1V and +3.3V, with current load about 7 A on each one. Input voltage is +5V. It will be great, that solution have minimum around components.

Hi Ser,

Take a look at the parts listed here. The TPSM84824 would be a good choice for your requirements and much smaller than LMZ22005.

Got some other question: isn't TPSM84824 more complicated for manufacturing and protection from environment (moisture for example)? It is basically a pcb with discrete components.

Hi Ser,

The TPSM84824 still meets same or similar MSL (moisture sensitivity level) ratings as some of our overmolded modules like LMZ31520 and LMZ31710, and even allows higher peak reflow temperatures than these other devices mentioned.

In terms of manufacturing/soldering considerations for power modules, take a look at this app note on the topic.

One more thing: if i whant to apply some kind of heat sink on this type of modules for better thermal perfomance, can it be appllied on top of the inductance?

Ser,

Applying a heat sink to the inductor should be fine. Be careful to avoid contacting the leads on the sides of the inductor with the heatsink. What are your design conditions such that you foresee need for a heatsink?

Kris,

ambient temperature can be ~50-60 degree celsius. heat sink is more for "just in case", for better thermal performance. current consumption of the supplied system will be calculated during design.
