BQ25703A: Looking for best design for USB charging 2-cell lion battery and power 27W system with path selection topologie UPS

Part Number: BQ25703A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25713

Hi,

Sorry for the long title !

I am looking for a power management design for a device with this specs :

  • Power consumption of 27W max: 5V at 3A and 12V at 1A
  • 2-cell li-ion battery
  • USB charging (5v only or fast charge ?)
  • Direct power supply (UPS, if the battery is discharged or removed) from the USB charging port or other dedicated power supply (e.g. 8,4V at 3A)

The BQ25703A seems to be a good candidate  ?

Is it possible to provide 27W USB power (with fast charge) ? if not, is it possible to have the 2 power input solutions (USB and dedicated power supply) to allow recharge with simple USB power bank and allow direct power supply if battery is removed ?

Best regards,

  • BQ25703A is a good choice. It can charge 2S battery from a wide range of input sources. It is a battery buck-boost charge controller, the maximum power is limited by the input source. Multiple input sources are possible by diode OR.  Narrow-VDC (NVDC) Power Path Management allows Instant-On With No Battery or Deeply Discharged Battery. If you needs Pass-Through Mode or higher resolution, BQ25713 is even better.
