BQ78350: BQ78350

Part Number: BQ78350
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO, , BQ76940EVM, EV2400,

BQstudio does not communicate with BQ78350 on the BQ76940EVM, it needs firmware update first i think, but the file to support this looks corrupt SLUC572A.zip

  • Hi,

On a new EVM, BQStudio should be able to communicate with the BQ78350, even if the firmware is not the most recent version. Did you apply voltage across the BAT+ and BAT- pin and press the Boot button? Did you connect the EV2400 SMBus output to the SMBus port on the EVM? Are the jumpers connecting GG_SCL, GG_SDA, GG_PWR, and GG_ALERT populated on the board?

The latest firmware for this device is located here: https://www.ti.com/lit/zip/sluc594  (version 1.04)

The BQ78350-R1A comes pre-loaded with the latest firmware and is recommended for new projects.

    Best regards,

    Matt

  • Hi, thanks for the quick reply. No solution yet , however. The BQ78350 on the EVM has fw 1.04 while the BQstudio supports up to 1.03. I tried to upgrade BQstudio to latest version V101, but it crashes.

  • Upgrading BQStudio to the latest version should definitely help since the newer version will include fw 1.04.

Maybe try uninstalling BQStudio and then re-installing the new version. Make sure to copy the installer to your hard drive and click 'Run as Administrator'.
