BQ77915: BQ77915 combined with bq7716xy

Part Number: BQ77915
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ7716

Dear TIers,

I am using a BQ77915 in my design and would like to implement an independent secondary level of protection through bq7716xy. I am trying to minimize as much as possible the sleep current while the battery is disconnected from my load, and it looks like the two combined would get me roughly a maximum of 5uA sleep current.

I assume I only need to branch these two devices off of each cells but I wanted to double check that there are no measurement interference between these two devices I would need to handle ?

Thank you!

  • Hi Cedric,

Yes, branch the circuits at the cells using individual filters of the this will give you the best separation of the 2 circuits.  Be aware of common path resistance particularly if you are balancing since the BQ7716 will see the voltage of any balance-current induced change due to path resistance. For example if you have a flex circuit which connnects the cells to the BMS board, don't put resistors on the flex board, and again branch the circuits as soon as you enter the BMS board.
