UCC28180: Design of 500W PFC module Inductor design.

Part Number: UCC28180

Hi,

I have Designed 500W PFC module.

Specification: Input 85V-265VAC 1-PH, 50HZ

Output 390VDC, 1.3A

1. Is it required additional gate driver circuit.

2. Kindly suggest the inductor value suitable and how to calculate no. of turns, Selection of core.

Find the attached schematic

  • Hello,

I reviewed your schematic and it looks functionally correct.

There is a UCC28180 Webench design tool that will help you with the inductor selection and design.  You can find it at the following link.

You just enter your input and output requirements and the tool does the rest.

When it comes to the gate driver that is all dependent on the gate driver max current and gate charge and how fast you get through the miller plateau.

Idrive = dQ/dt , dt = dQ/dt  typically you want dt to be 50 ns.  If the time comes out to be larger than this you might want to go with an external gate drive.

    Regards,
