Milli-volt precision low noise 100V low current power supply circuit / app note

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV2700, TLV320DAC3203

Hello,

I would like to know if there is any app note or ICs developed for a sub-millivolt precision 100V High voltage power supply circuit.

I need digital control. The HV output current is in microamp range. The bandwidth is audio or better. I was thinking along the lines of a DAC with a high voltage op amp.

My concern is that noise at the op amp input will get amplified a lot.

I don’t know if this better to post this for the power management or the amplifier forum section.

  • Hi, Frank,

The only device in our portfolio with this output voltage capability is the DRV2700, but this is an analog controlled haptics device. I could suggest a solution DAC + DRV2700 if you are interested in digital control.

The TLV320DAC3203 + Low-pass filter + DRV2700 could be a good solution. You would need to have an audio interface (I2S) to send the audio data to the TLV320DAC3203. I2C control would be required too. The DAC device will send a differential output to the DRV2700 (the low pass filter will be used to filter the out-of-band noise generated by the internal modulator).

Please let me know what you think and if you have questions or comments on this.

  • Hello Luis,

Thanks for your response. This could work in differential DC input. We would have to measure the performance in our application.

There are some design ideas over here with 2 DACs: one coarse, one fine. One reason would be to introduce less noise to the high voltage output. There would be less gain on the fine one and it would be added to the coarse one that sweeps the larger voltage span. There would be challenges to have the two DACs add up making a nice linear curve.

Are there any application notes doing that?

  • Hello, Frank,

Unfortunately, we have not developed an application note for this kind of solution yet. But definitely we will take it as a request to release it in the future.

However, we can offer you guidance on your application and solution. In case you already have a schematic, layout, block diagram, etc, we can take a look and provide comments in case we see some points to modify. In addition, if you have particular questions about our products, please let us know. We can address you to our experts who will be glad to help you with the questions that you have about our devices.

    Thank you.

    Best regards,
    Luis Fernando Rodríguez S.
