BQ78350-R1A: Change on the BQ78350 programming, to add a BQ76200.

Part Number: BQ78350-R1A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76930, BQ76200, BQ78350

Dear all,

last year we developed a BMS board for a 10s5p Li-Ion battery pack. We used a BQ76930 + BQ78350-r1a + charge and discharge N-mosfet on the ground line.

Now we are doing a new revision of this board, moving the N-mosfet on the positive line and adding a BQ76200 driver.

Is it necessary modify the BQ78350-r1a programm ?  Please, could you suggest me what parameters we have to modify due to the BQ76200 ?

Thanks a lot for your support. Regards.

  • Hi Devis,

In general, the BQ78350-R1A should not need changes, but there are some things to keep in mind.

Some applications have more than one PACK+ pin (one for the load and one for the charger) and the BQ78350-R1A firmware is designed for series FETs, not parallel. The main issue here is the Body Diode Protection feature that is described in the TRM.

This thread describes another challenge to be aware of when using parallel FET paths: https://e2e.ti.com/support/power-management/f/196/t/664995

With any new design, it is still a good idea to go through your BQ78350-R1A data flash parameters to verify the values still make sense for the new system.

    Best regards,

    Matt

  • Thanks Matt.

Our design have 2 N-mosfet in serie, so 1 pin Pack+.

Of course we are going to check every BQ78350 parameters. Our question is to have a first indication and we appreciate your answer.

    Regards.
