BQ25570EVM-206: Recommendation of the slightly higher power charger

Part Number: BQ25570EVM-206
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25570, BQ24210, BQ25505

Hi Team,

I want to charge a lithium polymer battery (3.7V, 160~400mAh) with a solar panel with an input power of 500 mW.

However, I have is bq25570, so the specification(recommend: <=400mW, maximum: 510mW) is a bit short.

It would be appreciated if you recommended a low-power battery charger with a "recommended operating condition" of 500mW or slightly higher, rather than an absolute maximum rating.

Best Regards,

Jaeyoung Hong

  • Hi Jaeyoung,

If you solar panel has VMPP>4.2V, you can use BQ24210 linear charger.

    Regards,

    Jeff

  • Hi Jeff,

My solar panel has VMPP 3.7~3.8V.

The specifications of my solar panel are as follows under 100 mW/cm2 conditions.

    • VOC   = 4.8V
    • VMPP = 3.7~3.8V
    • IMPP   = 135mA
    • IMAX   = 140mA
    • PMAX  = 505~515 mW

I also forgot to mention the important function of the charger. I am looking for a charger that includes MPPT.

Please answer the two questions below.

    1.  I would be grateful if you would recommend a charger that meets the above conditions once more.

    2. I read the datasheet of bq24210, and I think it can be used even if VMPP does not exceed 4.2V. I hope you can confirm that this guess is correct.

    Best Regards,

    Jaeyoung

  • Jaeyong,

BQ24210 set to battery tracking mode will work but will only be able to charge the battery to VMPP voltage = 3.8V not 4.2V.

BQ25505 will work but not be able to use the full power of the panel.

    Regards,

    Jeff
