LM5101A: Design with 48 V

Part Number: LM5101A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA240

Hi,

I attached a reliable design for ec-motor control with a 24 V supply.

Actually I exmaine wether this design is also working with a 48V power supply, an I found, that is no problem,

because of the abitilities of INA 240 and LM5101AMX up to 90V / 100V.

Is this correct?

TMO motor control 24V with INA240 and LM5101AMX.pdf

  • Hello Ralf,

The LM5101A us used widely in 48V Vin power conversion in telecom and industrial applications. So the compatibility with 48V motor drive should be OK. Confirm that the voltage stresses on the IC pins are within the recommended operating range, including the HS pin voltage of 100V maximum. The switch node of the power train can have voltage overshoot spikes so be sure and confirm this.

For the INA240, I am not the expert on this device, but can comment that the common mode voltage range is up to 80V, so the motor drive switch node peak may be limited to 80V for this device.

Confirm if this addresses your questions, or you can post additional questions on this thread.

    Regards,
