TPS61196: Increase LED output current to 500mA by tying IFB pins together

Part Number: TPS61196

Hi there,

I would like to increase the output current of the LED string.

Is it possible to do this with below connection ? Do you have any issues with it ?

Regards,

Ryan

  • Hi Ryan,

Yes, that ok. and for each channel of TPS61196, it can continuously output 200mA, so I would suggets to combine 3 channels together to driver 500mA.

  • Hi Sean,

    Thank you for your advice.

Just to confirm, in my application we are sourcing current (from the diagram above).

Based from below info from datasheet, it can supply a minimum of 400mA

So in order to achieve, 500mA, we only need to combine two channels right?

    Regards,

    Ryan

  • Hi Ryan,

No, thst for pulse current with 400mA, we only recommend for maximum 200mA for each channel so for 500mA, we recommend minimum 3 channels.

  • Hi Sean,

I plan to drive 5 LED strings with each string containing 28 LEDs.

The current for each string are as below:

    • LED String #1 = 310mA
    • LED String #2 = 310mA
    • LED String #3 = 400mA
    • LED String #4 = 310mA
    • LED String #5 = 310mA

Given this requirements, please help confirm that using part TPS61196 is not suitable in our design.

If yes, can you help advice another part that meets this requirement ?

    Regards,

    Ryan

  • Hi Ryan,

I'm sorry that TPS61196 can't set the different full-scall current for each channel, and it is better not to set over 200mA for each channel, I would suggest with the solution with several TPS61196.
