BQ25601D: Asking for the BQ25601D temperate design

Part Number: BQ25601D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25601, BQ25611D

Hi Team,

Customer is designing BQ25601D design questions.

Would you please provide comment for the following questions?

1. The attachment is the test report. One of the battery temperature working requirement is that charger need to stop charge the battery if the temperature is over 45⁰C.

If the charger stop charge the battery and the temperate is lower than 45⁰C, will the charger auto charge the battery again? How lower the temperature that charger can charge the battery again?

2.  How could customer design the temperature threshold? E.g. 45⁰C and 60⁰C?

3.  Customer checks the charging CUT-OFF based on battery thermistor, is the following value correct?

RT1 need to change from 5.23K to 5.36K,

RT2 need to change from 30.1K to 30.9K

  • SHH,

    1. Please refer to JEITA Thermistor Comparator (BUCK MODE) specs on the d/s. The device stop/resume charging based on TS pin voltage. You have to convert the information into thermistor temperature based on thermistor specs.

    2. Please refer to battery manufacturer's specs.

    3. For RT1 and RT2 calculation tool, please refer to http://www.ti.com/lit/zip/slurax7.

    Thanks,

    Ning.

  • Hi Ning,

Customer still have question regarding BQ25601D as below:

Customer checked the charging CUT-OFF based on battery thermistor at 45 degree C as following value --> RT1 need to change from 5.23K to 5.36K, RT2 need to change from 30.1K to 30.9K, but checking with the calculation tool we provided is RT1 is 9.26K and RT2 is 373.58K which is far from their calculation and they doubt the value in our calculation tool.

Customer is wondering what's the RT1 & RT2 value if we want to cut off at 45 degree C? The calculation tool seems it's for BQ2589X, will the result be same as BQ25601?

    Thanks!

    Best Regards,

  • Hi Ning,

Any comment for below questions? Thanks!

    Best Regards,

    Patty Chuang

  • Hi, your calculation below is correct. The datasheet is based on 0 to 60C, not 0 to 45C. Please keep in mind, for the 0 to 45C range, JEITA cool and JEITA warm are both included, which means 0C to 6C, the charge current is reduced to 20% of ICHG and from 33C to 45C, the charge voltage is clamped at 4.1V. If you need full charge current and voltage for 0C to 45C, BQ25611D is recommended.

  • Hi Hong,

for BQ25611D and BQ25601D, it seems can be directly replaced w/o change. Is that right?

Would you please let me know why BQ25601D cannot do the fill charge current and voltage? but BQ25611D can do full charge current and voltage?

I saw BQ25611D 9.3.6.4.1 describe the T1~T5 setting. is this the reason why BQ25611D can support more flexible?

    • That means 0⁰C to 6⁰C, the charge current is reduced to 20% of ICHG
    • From 33⁰C to 45⁰C, the charge voltage is clamped at 4.1V.

where is the  33⁰C information from?

    Question from customer:

    1. if customer modify RT1 and RT2 resistor to make the T3 to T5 charge to 33⁰C and 45⁰C, the charge voltage sill stay at 4.1V even change JEITA_VSET=1?

regarding to d/s description, JEITA_VSET=1 , the charge voltage should set to VBATREG?

    SHH

  • Hi SHH:

Yes, BQ25611D can replace BQ25601D. The key difference is BQ25611D has programmable JEITA such that T1 to T5 can be programmed as: T1=0C, T2=10C, T3=45C, T5=60C. Then T3 to T5 warm charge can be disabled by setting JEITA_WARM_ISET = 00. For COOL charge 0 to 10C, JEITA_COOL_ISET can be set at "11" which means the charge current is 100% of ICHG, no foldback. By doing this setting, charge current is 100% of ICHG from 0 to 45C.
