Hi, team,
Just curious on TPS65131-Q1 thermal information, usually RthJA will be larger than RthJCtop, but in TPS65131-Q1 datasheet, RthJA < RthJCtop.
Could you help check for the reason on this?
Thanks.
Johnny

Hi Johnny,
I checked TPS65131-Q1 RGE (VQFN-24) and some other devices in the same package and it appears that for smaller VQFN packages, like the one for TPS65131-Q1, Theta-ja is slightly lower than Theta-jc. The likely reason for this is that the exposed thermal pad of these packages that attaches to a solid copper plane on the board provides a lower thermal resistance path from junction to surrounding ambient than from junction to case top. So the numbers in the datasheet are correct.
Kind Regards,
Liaqat
