BQ24133: 1 cell simpler charger 2A

Part Number: BQ24133
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25616, BQ25606

I need a charger for a cell that has tests for EMI noise, but that needed fewer components, was simpler than the BQ24133. Could you indicate any?

The charging current would be 2A and the voltage 5V, but if it can withstand higher values so that it doesn't work at the limit, it would be great.

Thank you!

  • Hi,

I recommend BQ25616.  Its power path is NVDC, meaning the system is powered from the output of the buck converter instead of pass through from the input source.  For lowest EMI, I recommend placing a 0.1uF capacitor from PMID to GND and SYS to GND pins and also resistor and series capacitor from SW to GND.  Placement of the PMID capacitors and RC on SW close to IC is critical to minimize EMI.  You can also add a ferrite bead in series between input power source and VBUS pin.

    Jeff

  • Hello,
thank you very much for the instructions, however the noise test data is very important in this project, as it will be a product that will pass rigid certifications.

Only the BQ24133 has Reference designs with these tests? It could even be a similar 1,2,3 cell charger.

In the search on the Texas website I couldn't find..

    Thank you!

  • Hi,

Because EMI is more a function of board layout than the IC itself, we do not typically take EMI measurements for our ICs. Even if we did, it would only be valid for the PCB (usually the EVM) that we used for the EMI measurement.

    Jeff

  • Would it be too much to ask for another indication?
Because our supplier does not have this IC, the LCSC. :(
Would the BQ25606 be a good option?
    Thank you!

  • BQ25606 is a good option too.  I am confident that with the recommended extra components and good layout mentioned above that we can minimize EMI noise.

    Jeff

  • Thank you very much, Jeff!
    It was a pleasure.
