WEBENCH® Tools/LM7480-Q1: New Devlopment

Part Number: LM7480-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM74800-Q1

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Dear Sir,

I want to use LM74800-Q1 for Hotswap between Source @ 1 and Source @ 2

Source @ 1: SMPS Power Supply: 48 V DC
Source @ 2: Battery Volatage: 48 V DC
Load Requirement : 48 V @ 60 A

I don't want any delay in change over from Source @ 1 to Source @ 2.
My load should not see any disturbance in change over.

My first priority is Source @ 1. if source @ 1 fails, Source @ 2 should take over the load requirement.

I request you to check LM74800-Q1 is fulfilling my requirement.
Can you share the eagle library file? So that I can develop a Schematic.

Please confirm when it is available for purchase

Regards
Murthy

  • Hello Murthy,

Basically your requirements are for priority power MUX of 48V DC rail at 60A.

LM74800-Q1 fits your requirements and we have an application note on using LM74800-Q1 in priority power MUXing with one power source having priority over the second one.

Application Note Titled: Six System Architectures With Robust Reverse Battery Protection Using an Ideal Diode Controller

Particularly, Desing #6 on page 9 and 10 discusses this topic.

We recommend to refer to this and let us know if you have further questions.

    Regards,

    Kari.

  • Dear Sir,

    Thanks for your warm reply

Design # 6 looks more suitable for my application. I will go for Evaluation.

(Design # 6: Reverse Battery Protection With Priority Power MUXing).

For changeover from the primary path to the secondary path, IC will take 6 Usec typical.
In that transition, it should be capable to handle 60 Amp of continuous load current.

    1. Can you please share Eagle Library Files or Footprint for Schematic Development?
    2. This IC is not available in Digikey, Element14, or Mouser Electronic components distributor portal for Initial Evaluation.
3.In figure 15 of Design 6 for Q5,D3,R5,C2,C1. Please suggest suitable Values and Part Numbers or Reference Document for Calculation and selection.

    Regards
    Murthy

  • Hello Murthy,

    Thank you for the response.

Eagle library files may not be available from TI, but the datasheet has symbol footprint information towards the end of the datasheet. Let us know if this is not good for you.

You can place orders from TI Store "http://store.ti.com/".

For parts selection on Q5, D3, R5, C2 and C1, can you let us know the type of usage, is it used in automotive or industrial application or other application?

    Regards,

    Kari.
