LM2585: Current Limit

Part Number: LM2585

Hi Team,

One of my customer is facing issues with device during output short circuit test. The flyback output is designed for 15V/1.2A from 24V input. For UL safety tests the output is shorted and observed that the device current is not limiting and output is not shutting down. This results in transformer saturation and failure. Can you please help with quick suggestion to address this issue.

Thanks in advance for the help and support.

  • Hi Shinu,

    Can you provide the schematic?

For the LM258x series, over-current behavior is not enabled until soft-start is complete, which is based off of the feedback pin and error-amplifier. If you have grounded feedback, overcurrent protection will not be enabled, since the part's internal soft-start is never completed.

Therefore, you will need an external circuit to implement the overcurrent protection feature.

    Thanks,

    Richard
