BQ4050: Internal Charge Controller

Reading the Tech Ref, I understand that my bq4050 has an internal charge controller, since the 0x03 BatteryMode() register is reporting the ICC bit high (Internal Charge Controller supported)

I cannot find any further documentation related to this feature: do you have something about to explain how this is working ?

Hello Wyatt,

the "Internal Charge Controller" is not documented at all in the Tech Ref, and I don't understand exactly how does it works.

I can imagine that it is enabled/disabled by Battery Mode bit 8, Charge Controller Enabled (R/W), but nothing else:
- what happens if the bit 8 is OFF (Internal charge controller disabled) ?
- what happens when the bit 8 is 8 (Internal charge controller enabled) ?

Hello Pietro,

The bit doesn't seem to have a function at this point, this could be from a previous version of a gauge. It shouldn't change the operation of the bq4050. It may also have been used as an extra bit for the SMBus communication.
