BQ28Z610: Learning cycle golden image compatibility

I performed a succesful learning cycle on bq28z610 running fw version v0_17 on our hardware with 2s2p configuration. I have two questions:

1. If the pcb layout changed slightly, do i need to perform a new learning cycle?

2. If I update the firmware version to v1_01 which is the latest firmware, do i need to perform a new learning cycle?

Hello Adrian,

1. Yes if you changed the interconnect points for VC2, VC1, VSS, I recommend it. You can try to use the original golden file and see what the SOC accuracy is, but re-running the learning cycle is beneficial as well.

2. You can update to the new firmware, but the new firmware is tied to a new HW. I recommend switching the IC as the new firmware is trying to resolve an IC issue.

Hello Kang Kang,

Thanks for answering my question. What about I use the latest firmware for BQ28Z610. Is it v0_22? The srec fw? If so, where can I download it?

I also see a difference regarding Permanent Failure where VIMR and VIMA configurations are available on V1_01 but not on V0_17. Does the latest firmware for BQ28z610 support it?

Hello Adrian,

It is on the product page for bq28z610-R1.

I believe the newest version supports VIMR and VIMA. I did not find it on the bq28z610 v0.17.

I'll double check and circle back as well.

Hello Kang,

I looked into the bq28z610-R1 product page and downloaded bq28z610 Gauging Firmware (Rev. A). And the version is this: bq28z610R1FirmwareBundle-1.01-windows-installer.

It is the same issue here https://e2e.ti.com/support/power-management/f/196/t/904333

I hope you can help me with this.

Hello Kang,

I also noticed that target 2610_0_22-bq28z610.bqz is not implemented in the latest bqstudio (1.3.86.6)

What do you suggest I do? Should I go for V0_20?

Hi Adrian,

We realize the incorrect FW is on the product page for BQ28z610. We are working with our digital marketing team to get this fixed to restore the version that was there previously. V1_01 is meant for BQ28z610-R1 device, so if you wish to use that then we recommend switching to that IC.
