TPS62823: Inductance selection for low output current

Hi Team,

we have designed in TPS62823 in an application where the high output current actually is not needed. With this we see the regulator operating in discontinuous conduction mode and were wondering if could increase the inductance. We are using the recommended 470nF so far. Can we increase the inductance and if so to what value? Or is the 470nF fix?

Hi Lutz,

The TPS6282x is designed to work with inductors of 470nH nominal and can be used with 1µH inductors as well. From the typical examples and the datasheet recommendations, it looks like upto 2uH also should not be a problem. There is also a list of Inductors available in Webench and you can always simulate and check the stability before actual implementation.

Beyond the datasheet recommendations, the electrical parameters are not characterized. It should be the responsibility of the customer to make sure their application is stable.

Additionally, you may also look into TPS62825/6/7. This is not p2p but we have it's forced PWM version as a future spin. The features are comparable as well.
