LM61460: Question about Current limits

Part Number: LM61460

In LM61460,

In the datasheet,

Output DC Max load current is 6A.

In the Electrical characteristics, there are also switch's current limit.

What happens if current goes over Low side switch current limit?

If current ripple goes over 8.1A(max Low side switch current limit?) then what happens? Does this IC get damaged?

  • In section 7.3, the max DC rated current for the device is specified as 6A.

In Electrical Characteristics table, current limits are specified. These are values of the command "Signals," that is the measured peak and valley inductor current, are used to ensure average power consumed within the device is low under short circuit condition (as example).

Ensuring DC load current does not exceed max rated current of 6A, in addition, appropriate component selection as outlined in applications sectopm, is what the designer must do to allow for a design in which IC device will conform to datasheet standard without any degradation in lifetime.
