ULN2003A: ULN2003A to drive common anode LED

Part Number: ULN2003A

Hi,

Could you please help figure out the circuit to drive common anode LED dot matrix with the ULN2003A. The supply voltage available is 3.3V The dot matrix LED array part number is HDSP 701A

Thanks and Regards,

Akshat

  • Hi,

    Welcome to E2E!

The ULN2003 is a low side switch which is not capable of sourcing a current. The device serves as a ground connection for which it can be connected to the cathode columns of the HDSP 701A. A different device or a GPIO from a micro controller must be used to source the current to the anode rows in order to light up the LED's, but that would all have to be in consideration of the amount of GPIO's that your application will have available.

The E2E post found in this link talks about an LED matrix. This may give you some ideas on how to implement the ULN in your application.

Let me know if you have any questions!

    Best regards,

    Andy Robles
