TPS51200: Revision change of the datasheet

Part Number: TPS51200

Hi team,

We got inquires on the revision change of the datasheet to D from C.

In their circuit, the capacitor with REFOUT is beyond 0.47uF which is added after Rev.D

  1. If the total capacitor value is over 0.47uF, what problem would be happened ?
    Are there any oscillation ?

  1. The circuit works fine at the moment but are there any concern on the aging issue ?

  1. Customer removed or increased the capacitor for their evaluation in their circuit but they don’t see the oscillation.
If oscillation is seen, it will be the case increasing capacitor ?

We got their schematic and waveform from customer, so please let me share with you internally.

Thank you and best regards,

Michiaki

  • Hi Michiaki,

    1. Recently we did simulation across process/voltage/temp for one customer. In simulation, Refout voltage is still stable at worst case, but the phase margin of Refout output becomes lower when Refout cap increases. For precautious purpose, we update datasheet and suggest to keep Refout cap below 0.47uF.

    2. We tested REFOUT with 10uF cap across temp and voltage voltage, and don't see oscillation issue. Also, no customer report Refout oscillation issue so far. So the issue is not likely to happen in real  application.

    3. The 0.47uF is a precautious recommendation for new design. It is low risk to keep the existing capacitance for the released project.

    Thanks

    Qian
