Dear Sirs.

I got my own PCB witch is very similar to the evaluation board (BQ40Z60EVM). I also managed to connect the EV2300 with the BQSTUDIO – works well.

My problem is the chip is always reporting 100% of the relative capacity. I think is because the learning process is not completed. When I start the learning procedure, the charging faze is finished immediately, even if the batteries are flat. It seems because of the voltage level, there is 4.2V at the plot, but I have 2 cells, so CC voltage should be 8,4, am I right?

Do you have any manual or video how to configure the BQ40Z60EVM board for 2 cells? Just step by step what to set to succeed.

I was able to turn on/off the charger/discharger so I think there is no any issue with my board.

Have you selected a proper chemistry id for battery cells yet?

yes, I did. My battery is present on the chemid list.

Chemistry id is very critical for the gauging performance and I usually suggest my customers don't select a chemistry id based battery model name. To make sure you are using a proper chemistry id, I recommend that you use the GPCCHEM tool to find the best matching id.

In addition, we have an app note which explains how to do the learning cycle step by step.

Still nothing, what was change, now I see 0% of the relative charge (prev was 100%). I miss something very simple I guess. Maybe there is some mistake in configuration, don’t know yet.

But I have an idea, ma circuit is almost the same like BQ40Z60 evaluation board. Is it possible to get golden file for any battery for this board? The best 2 cell packet. Is it available to download or possible to obtain it somehow?

No. The chemistry id must match the battery cells you are using. You cannot reuse the golden files that are created for other battery cells.

I would suggest you first make sure you are using the proper chemistry id. Use the GPCCHEM tool to find it.

but if I will use the chemID form the table given in the bqstudio, will it works? I am OK with little bit less accuracy at this moment, the main goal is to make it working. Later will be time to make some improvements.

The chemistry id is very critical for the gauge. Without a proper chemistry id, it is most likely that the gauge will not work correctly. I would suggest you take a look at the app note I provided before and the following video tutorial to work on the chemistry id first.

I suggest my customers NOT select a chemistry id based on the battery model. Instead, use the GPCCHEM tool to find the best matching id.

but what will happen if I use the CHEMID from the list? Less accuracy? Or critical error like not possible to complete the learning cycle?

There are over 3000 chemistry ids in our library. It is very unlikely that you can find the proper chemistry id that matches your battery cells.

After the chemistry id is programmed, the next step is to run a learning cycle. Without a proper chemistry id, the learning cycle will definitely fail.

Yes, please make sure the chemistry id you use is recommended by the GPCHEM tool.

Hello,

I manager to complete the learning cycle at the evaluation board. So far so good J

When I try to the same at my board, I have PRES flag in the Operation Status always ON. I do not use this feature, the NR flag in the DA Configuration is on. This flag is blocking charge and discharge state.

What is wrong?

Hello Kryzsztof,

Can you attach a gg.csv file and srec image and a screen capture of bqStudio when you see this.

Most likely you need to send the Gauge Enable or IT Enable command.

Make sure that you have the CC1 and CC0 bits configured correctly for the number of cells in series and send a reset.

Hello,

Finally I managed to make the learning process, almost.

The charger is programmed to use 1000mA in all temperatures. But when the pack voltage increase, the current is going lower. After some time the current is zero and the charging state is not able to complete. I expect the CC/CV with 1A and 4.2V per cell, why is not working such way?

Can you check the gg.csv file for charge voltage setting. It could be triggering a particular fault or JEITA.

I think the charger voltage and current settings are OK.

The charger output current keep decreasing from the beginning, this conclusion comes for the log analysis.

Can it be related to the ChgM bit in the Battery Status Register? I Found one post where someone claim I should set the BCAST bit (DF.Settings.sbsConfiguration) to make the charger under control of the chip,.. Cannot find information about that in the manual.

Yes, try to set the BCAST bit if you do not have a host sending the command for charging voltage or current.
