Data on the bq20862 gas gauge

In late 2004 and 2005, TI made the bq20862 - just look in old copies of the Power Management Selection Guide. I'm involved on a project still using these chips.

Does anyone know how to get a datasheet - TI Europe flat deny ever making the chip, despite me sending them the URL for the guides that list them. There was even a official evaluation module - I have the User Guide.

We're looking to optimise the low temperature capacity estimates, and a datasheet would be great, but I am running out of ideas as to how you get one...

Sorry, I believe bq20862 is a custom part developed for one company only. That company is the only one with whom we can share information on that custom product.

The lack of info does feel like a custom part, but in the Power Management Selectiob Guide for 4Q 2004 and 3Q 2005 it is listed as a gas gauge. This guide was an 'open market' item - the TI number is slvt145d.pdf and slvt145e.pdf. The wayback machine still has copies. By the 2Q 2006 edition it has vanished without trace.

I also found the User Guide for an evaluation board bq20862EVM - ref sluu211 from may 2005. Looks like most of the other gas gauge EVMs - had its own software to interpret the registers.

So I'm puzzled - was this chip ever actually offered on the open market? I fully understand that custom chips are just that, it's strange that it was once listed and then disappeared.

Doug,

The Battery Management Guide 3Q 2005 lists the BQ20862 and includes the notes that it is a "DQ Bus version of the BQ2083". The BQ2083 uses SMBus.

The BQ2083 datasheet is still available on Partminer, and maybe ti.com (I did not check).

The datasheet from TI for the BQ20862-V200 is SLUS740 dated October 2006.

Ask your TI rep for a copy.

Definitly a Custom part and TI will not give out any info.I am told once the agreement expires it will be available. We will see.
