TPS61165: Rechargable Battery Powered LED Driver with TPS61165

Hello,

I want to design a led driver system with a rechargable battery (3.7V) powered with USB chargable. The led driver system was designed with TPS61165DBVR, and I plan to use 5-7V forward voltage and 20mA forward current LEDs. I placed a tactile spst switch on the power line and the led driver will operate when I press the button. My question is that is the design true for driving these type of leds?

Hi Ersoz,

You need to connect all three LEDs serially since TPS62265 needs work under boost mode. For your schematic, it may turn on the LED directly.

Do you think the 3.7V is enough for driving LEDs with 5V forward voltage?

Thank you for your answer! I want to activate the LEDs for only 2 minutes, so how often do I need to charge the 3.7V battery?

Hi Ersoz,

That really depends on the characters of the battery, you need to calculate the voltage drop of the battery to make sure it is above 3V which ensure that TPS61165 can work well.
