UCC27714EVM-551: Power management forum

Part Number: UCC27714EVM-551

Hi Team,

My customer is evaluating the UCC27714EVM-551, and found there were added capacitors across the primary MOSFET gate to source resistors,  R10, R11, R16 and R17 which were not shown in the schematic of UCC27714EVM-511.
In the following TI E2E thread,
  - UCC27714EVM-551: About cause of destruction of evaluation board
That was explained as follows,
"There is an improvement we are implementing with the EVM build which helps with noise immunity of the EVM. We are adding 0.022uF capacitors across the primary MOSFET gate to source resistors, R10, R11, R16 and R17 which has been confirmed with the assembly contractor."

Could you explain the reason for the addition of capacitor more in detail?
And could you explain the guideline for setting capacitor capacitance?

Thank you

Best Regards,

Koshi Ninomiya

  • Hello Koshi,

The suggested improvement by the board contractor was based on layout regarding trace lengths of the gate drive to the MOSFETs. The long traces were found to be somewhat susceptible to noise pickup from the driver to the MOSFETs, the capacitors at the MOSFET gates reduces induced noise at the MOSFET Vgs.

The values were determined by testing and inspection and is dependent on the board layout.

Confirm if this addresses your questions, you can ask additional questions on this thread.
