Hi,

We are using BQ24232 family Li-Po charger in one of our design.

When we tried disabling Vout of BQ24232 to disable next buck boost converter with a active low circuit shown in attached circuit we have observed Li-Po charger near by section is heating up.

Is it because of the Vout disabling or any other reason?

Kindly suggest any alternative way to make this functionality without heat up.

What controls the EN pin of the buck boost?

This is a power path device so the battery will supplement the load current being pulled by the buck boost converter which is likely causing the temperature increase if the buck boost is not being disabled properly.

Thanks for your reply.

The EN pin is controlled by a GPIO pin of a different controller. Which was properly changing its state to low. The heating is observed when using without any battery connected to the device.

Any other ways to root cause this. Any help would be great.

Is the buck boost actually disabling when you change the EN state with the GPIO?

Yes. I have checked it, buck boost output is totally getting disabled.

Still I have some doubt on the buck boost IC also, since all these ICs are placed so close by not able find exactly which is generating heat.

Any other ways to root cause this. Any help would be great.

Hello,

on the BQ24232 side, my only recommendation is that you should pull EN1 and EN2 up to VOUT instead of VIN because VIN can be as high as 28V and EN pins are only rated for 7V.

Hello Raheem,

Thanks for recommendation. We are using only USB Supply for input so voltage levels will not be a issue. Definitely we will consider this recommendation.
