Need help to find out a right battery charger IC

Hi,

I am planning to incorporate a battery charger including power path in my circuit - this is to charge an on board single cell Li-Ion backup battery. (Looking for a stand alone chip)

(When external power supply connected board should work from that and if no input supply then work from backup battery)

External Input voltage to my whole circuit is 9-32 V DC and I can add a buck converter if the input range is too high, (external supply from any power adaptor not from USB or anything)

I found few chip (BQ25606, BQ24133 etc) but not sure which is the right option.

Hi Sarath,

We have BQ24610 for wide input voltage application, this charger IC can support nominal operation up to 28V.

Hi Upal,

Thanks for the IC suggestion.

I can see the absolute Vin is 33V, so am I safe to stick on to my input power supply spec range 9-32V? or do I need to step down this to any voltage below 28V?

Hi Sarath,

33V is the absolute maximum input, the recommended operation is up to 28V, hence you will need to step down to support below or at 28V.

Hi,

I have a question regarding TS pin in BQ24610. If my selected battery pack having no NTC/ thermistor sense what I need to do with that TS pin? Or surely do I need to use a battery pack having NTC?

If I am not using NTC, can I just float that pin as it is?

Hi Sarath,

If TS is not used, it should be biased in the normal temperature range defined by THERMISTOR COMPARATOR in the EC table.

Could you please specify the normal temperature range that you specified in your previous answer? I can't see that

If you can help me to find out the resistor value that can connect between VREF, TS, GND would be great. In below calculation I don't have the value for RTH COLD,RTH HOT etc. So how can I calculate the resistance value?

Hi Sarath,

Refer to the Thermistor comparator section of the EC table of the datasheet.
RTH COLD RTH HOT etc are to calculate the resistor divider if using an external NTC. As you have specified no NTC, just use a resistor divider such that the voltage on TS is within the LTF and HTF range. 10k and 10k is fine as 50% is within valid range.
