LM5104: Additional deadtime

Part Number: LM5104

Hi,

Can the value of RT be safely increased beyond 100k for additional deadtime? I would like to achieve an addition ~100ns of deadtime on top of what is achieved with RT = 100k.

Kind Regards,

Andrew

  • Hello Andrew,

Thank you for the interest in the LM5104. After reviewing the datasheet section 7.3.1 (Adaptive Shoot-Through Protection), I see the statement the RT pin is designed to accommodate a resistance range of 5K to 100K resulting in dead time of 90ns to 200ns. It clearly states values under 5K are not recommended.

Assuming a similar relationship of RT to time, to achieve another 100ns the RT would have to be ~190K Ohms. This device was likely not characterized or tested within that resistance range. It is possible that the part will function with extended dead times but it would be up to your risk to use the part beyond the datasheet tested conditions.

If you do explore the usage of this part with higher dead times, be sure you test multiple devices and evaluate over temperature range.

Confirm if this addresses your question, or you can post additional questions on this thread.

    Regards,
