USB driver problem for EV2300 connecting to WinXP running in VMWare Fusion -- working with bq77PL900EVM is the goal

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-FET, EV2400

I'm unable to get an EV2300 box, to be used with the bq77PL900EVM, to stay connected properly via USB.  Host OS is Windows XP in a virtual machine under VMWare Fusion. I've been successfully running an MSP-FET430UIF in the same environment, and I believe one of the two drivers the EV2300 uses is also used by the MSP-FET430UIF because the first time I plugged in the EV2300 and it asked to search for a driver, it said that it found a newer one already there.  I assume that it was installed for the MSP-FET.

Anyway, I don't know what to do next.  I'd love to uninstall the USB drivers fully and try starting from scratch, because I was never asked for the second driver for the EV2300, which apparently comes from the directory C:/Windows/TI/USB2.  Is there someone I can talk to who can walk me through this?

Thanks,

Scott

  • Hi Scott,

Have you tried running the EV2300 driver installation package? Here is the download link: http://www.ti.com/litv/zip/slec003.

  •  Yes, that's what I used to install the drivers in the first place.  I've even re-run it multiple times, and each time it finds a "suspect or newer" installation, which I tell it to over-write.  What I really want is a way to uninstall the drivers so that I can install them cleanly and see if that solves it.

  • Hi Scott,

Which version of Windows XP are you using? The EV2300 is only compatible with 32-bit versions of Windows. The EV2400 is scheduled to be released later this year and will support 64-bit windows.

Also, can you confirm that you also installed the EVSW for your EVM? This is required in addition to the EV2300 drivers in order to communicate to the board. Here's the download link: http://www.ti.com/litv/zip/sluc103.

In order to uninstall the drivers, you can go to your Windows "Device Manager", double-click on the EV2300, and go to "Driver" -> "Uninstall".

  • Yes, I installed the EVSW, that's how I know that there's a problem -- the eval app complains about not seeing an EV2300.  It's the 32-bit version of Windows.  As for uninstalling the driver, the EV2300 doesn't appear in Device Manager because it connects and then disconnects immediately.  So, the problem I'm having prevents me using the method you suggest.

    Thanks,

    Scott

  • Hi Scott,

It seems like the problem might be related to the virtual machine. Unfortunately, we are unable to support these setups since we do not have the tools available to replicate the problem.

    Antonio

  • It is odd, though, that the MSP-FET430UIF works fine in the VM, and it uses the same USB driver.  However, we have side-stepped the problem by moving to a Windows laptop.  I hope that the EV2400 due out later this year will be tested with Windows in a VM.  it's not expensive to buy VMWare Fusion, install it on a Mac, install Windows in it and try it out.  With more Mac users out there than ever before, it's more common to have customers who would want to run with that configuration.

    Cheers,

    Scott

  • Thanks for your input, Scott. Our goal is to support as many platforms as our resources allow. The EV2400 is a step in this direction as it will support 64-bit versions of Windows. I am unaware of VM support for this upcoming device. Hopefully, the new drivers, along with any updates released by the VMWare Fusion team, will allow it to work with a setup like yours.

    Antonio

  • If necessary, you can try the EV2300 64-bit drivers which are now available but not officially supported:
