TLV767: Does Cout 47uF need a schottky diode to prevent reverse current?

Part Number: TLV767

Hi,

We're using TLV767 for 5V/500mA output with a 47uF output cap.

Is 47uF okay for 5V/500mA output?

Datasheet also said that if Cout large enough, we need to add a schottky to prevent reverse current. (8.1.4)

Do we need to add one in this case?

Thank you.

Best Regards,

Cindy

  • Hi Cindy,

If there is a chance that VIN will be shorted during normal operation, then you may want to use a Schottky diode, to minimize peak current.

The worst-case scenario for most LDO's is when there is no active load, High COUT, and suddenly the input voltage is shorted. In this case, the 1/2CV^2 energy stored on COUT would be dissipated in the parasitic diode.

    Does this help to clarify?
