TL4242: TL4242 size and its application

Part Number: TL4242

Hello,

I am now evaluating tl4242 and I have following questions.

1, present package choice is only WSON (8) but is there any plan to choose smaller package lineup for the future ?

(Can die size of tl4242 meet smaller package ? )

2, I am planning to use tl4242 as “path switch”.by current sense.

In this case, external current is connected to Vref but not reach Vref limit when external current is flowing.

(for example, current setting is 0.2A and if external current value is over 0.2A tltl4242 path is stopped)

I hope to ask internal structure of IC can accept this use or not.

If it also have any concern, could you teach me ?

Best Regards,

K.Sakai

  • hi

For the 1 question:  there isn't a future plan

For the 2 question: there is a constant voltage across the rsns to control the constant output current. So i think that can't satisfy your application.

  • Thank you for your reply.

Refer to No1, I understand you are not planning to release smaller package.

I hoped to know it is technically possible or not, but I check die size by myself.

Almost 2.3mm*3.1mm die cannot meet smaller package I understand.

Refer to No2 item, can I ask further?

Actually I got tl4242 sample and it can work as I expected.

(When current setting is 0.2A and if external current value is over 0.2A, tltl4242 path is just stopped)

When tltl4242 path is opened I understand Vref is 0.2V (constant voltage as you said) ,but if tltl4242 path is stopped Vref might be over 0.2V by external current path.

    My questions are,

Is there any safety risk when Vref is over 0.2V ? (under 16V)

Also is there any internal protection launched on this situation ?

I think it’s better to attach diagram but I do not know the way to post file on E2E.

I have already attached file on following case.

Is it possible to refer case description ?

  • could you share the link of the document i can't search it only by number

  • Please check following

  • ref pin's max voltage is 16 V so i think it can work this application.
