Can bq30z554-r1 and bq30z50 be replaced directly? Is the software compatible? If not, what changes need to be made?

Software is not compatible, these devices are based on different HW platforms.We recommend to use BQ40z50-R2.

BQ40z50-R2 is not pin-to-pin replacement to BQ30z554-R1. I'd recommend looking at the EVM user's guide (https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/sluuav7b/sluuav7b.pdf) to see circuit schematic and PCB layout considerations.

This device uses BQEVSW (BQ Evaluation Software) which is our older SW toolchain. Our latest toolchain is BQStudio (https://www.ti.com/tool/BQSTUDIO) which works with our newer gauges such as BQ40z50-R2.

Unfortunately we do not have a HW compatible model of this device. If you do have to change schematic and layout in order to use a newer gauge such as BQ40z50-R2, our applications team can help to review your schematic.
