BQ24105: Changing the termination current

Part Number: BQ24105

Hello Guys,

Our customer is using the BQ24105 on their design and would like to know ways they can increase the termination current. Their goal is to charge the battery up to a certain capacity only.

Basically what they are trying to do is charge their batteries in the production line up to 70% (roughly) before shipping them out. They believe that if they can somehow find a solution to have a termination around 500mA that will get them fairly close. The problem with the BQ24105 IC is that it only allows up to 200mA of termination current which will charge the batteries beyond 70%.

They are using a one cell battery solution 18650.

Thanks in advance!

  • Art,

Unfortunately termination has maximum value of 200mA as specified in the EC table.

If the customer is using the same battery and they are discharged to the same level, you could use the charge safety timer to terminate after a certain amount of time. The conditions in production are fairly uniform, so the device is unlikely to go into a fault condition and likely to charge in the same amount of time.

I hope this resolves your issue,

    Ricardo
