BQ76930: BQ76930 VC0~VC10 input RC value.

Part Number: BQ76930

Dear  TI team,

I see the some reference design data from TI web side. I have found out the BQ76930 VC0~VC10 input RC value. R is 1K ohm but C is 0.22uF or 1uF.   I want to confirm whether the capacitor is 0.22uF or 1uF and VC0 and VC1 input capacitor is oneself connect to GND or  VC1 capacitor connect to VC0 capacitor. VC0 capacitor connect to GND.

  • Hi NS,

The measurement timing during balancing is described in the application note https://www.ti.com/lit/slua775 around figures 5 and 6.  With the 1k input filter resistors and 1uF the filter is still settling as measurements begin and voltage errors can be observed. Example signals are shown in the video https://training.ti.com/getting-started-our-monitoring-and-protection-ic-high-cell-count-batteries at approximately 12:00.  The smaller capacitors allow faster settling and less voltage disruption during balance.  If balancing is not used the larger capacitors may be desired although they may be more expensive than the smaller values.

The bottom of the VC1 capacitor should be connected to GND as shown in the data sheet.  When connected to VC0 a sudden load on the battery can cause VC0 to drop below VSS which is undesired.  The incorrect connection was used in a few reference schematics, it has not caused problems in those designs and has not been corrected, but the data sheet connection is recommended.
