BQ40Z80: About BQ40Z80 MOS switching circuit

Part Number: BQ40Z80
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: , BQSTUDIO

Hello,

Close to the weekend, I wish you all a happy weekend holiday~

I am the first contact with bq40z80, there are many questions, please forgive me.

There is a question about the circuit of BQ40Z80.

The MOS switch drive circuit of the BQ40Z80EVM-020 analog board is designed at the positive end.

Our MOS switch drive circuit is designed on the negative side.

So, is there anything that needs attention? Or is there anything different in bqStudio settings?

Adam

  • Hello Adam,

I consulted with someone in the team.

The BQ40Z80 only supports high-side protection. Although it could work with additional circuitry, we don't guarantee proper performance or functionality.

It is also likely that you will lose communication with the gauge when the low-side FETs are open. This means that you wouldn't be able to communicate with bqStudio any time the FETs open.

Is there any reason why you want low-side protection? I would advice your team to instead design your board as shown on the BQ40Z80 EVM.

    Best Regards,

  • Hello Salomon,

    Sorry for the late reply.
