LM5170: connection to two LM5170 for 4 phase design

Part Number: LM5170

hi Team,

my customer is using 2 LM5170 EVM and put in parallel for synchronous and 4 phase design

in the DS page 35, Figure 42 shows the multiphase connection

however, the following pins did not specify in the DS of the connection for such design

please help elaborate on the connection recommendations

  1. OVPA
  2. OVPB
  3. UVLO
  4. SS
  5. nFAULT
  6. IPK
  7. EN1
  8. EN2
  9. ISATA
  10. OSC

  • Hi John,

Please refer to the following diagram for parallel connection:

    (1) use a 60pin header and ribbon cable to connect the two EVM (refer to EVM schematic for the inter connections)

    (2) apply jumper header to the positions show as the red  bars.

    (3) Install 50k to R4 on the first board, and this will allow the circuit to auto start when source voltage is applied.

    (4) solder a copper strip across the two large exposed pads on the back side, beside D3. This disables the circuit breaker function.

    (5) change the position of the blue bar jumper header to change the power flow directions.  The position as shown sets the circuit in buck mode. move the jumper header to the other side sets the boost mode.

    Thanks,

  • hi Youhao,

Thanks very much for the detailed reply, but the pictures you posted seems to be corrupt.

can you upload it again? or send to my email.

    appreciate the support~!

  • Let me try again:
