TPS22948: load capacitance

Part Number: TPS22948

Hello

The datasheet says 18nF at the output pin is optimal, but my application would have the load capacitance of 1uF or possibly 2u2 at the output pin. Is it permissible to do this, and can you tell me what effect on operation this load capacitance would have?

Thank you.

  • Hi Clive,

There is no issue with driving a cap load of 1uF or 2.2uF with TPS22948. The recommendation of 18nF on the datasheet is under the assumption that the load capacitance is far downstream connected with a long cable which is inductive in nature.

In this situation, we recommend an 18nF cap close to the device for optimal short circuit performance. In your situation, the 18nF cap may not be required if the load is close to the device.

Thanks for choosing TI Power Switches in your designs.
