Hi Team,

What is recommended VCAP capacitor voltage rating for LM74700-Q1 working in 24Vbat system (commercial vehicles/trucks)?

    Hi Piotr,

    Recommended Voltage rating for normal operation is 25V rated capacitor as the maximum voltage seen during normal operation is 15V even for 24V battery powered systems.

    However considering fail-safe applications, 65V rated capacitors are better. Because if there is a fault scenario with VCAP at VIN+15V and EN is grounded.

    Any short for VCAP to EN pin trace can lead to higher voltage. VIN max is 28V (DC Max), 65V load dump and if VCAP is shorted to GND, 65V can be seen across VCAP capacitor and it can get damaged.

    Similarly for 12V application, max load dump voltage is 35V or 40V. So 50V rated capacitor is good enough for fail safe applications.
