BQ40Z80: Regarding BQ40Z80 the fuse pin remains high

Part Number: BQ40Z80

Hi~

BQ40Z80 TRM Section 4.19 Second Level Protection Permanent Fail(as attached).

Does the setting change here also affect the status of FUSE? How to set it under normal condition?

The problem we are facing now is that the fuse pin is always at a high potential.

Adam

  • Hello Adam,

The test-point FUSE(TP1) will always be high as this is connected through D4 to the top of the battery stack. This pin will be pulled low by the NMOS Gate(Q9) once FUSE conditions are met. The BQ40Z80 EVM does not come with a chemical fuse, so if FUSE conditions are met D4 will be turned on.

The Technical Reference Manual is likely referring to the test-point FUSEPIN(TP3). This pin will go high once FUSE conditions are met. Which would turn on the Q9 gate, pulling test point TP1 low.

  • I understand what the TRM was referring to now. It is talking about the FUSE(PIN 23) from BQ40Z80. Which is different from the test-point FUSE(TP1).

Pin 23 would detect when FUSEPIN(TP3) is high, disabling the DSG and CHG FETs.

  • Hi Salomon,

Thank you for your reply, I will discuss it with our engineers again.
