BQ24715: adapter current/ battery discharge current using Iout

Part Number: BQ24715

Hi,

We are using BQ24715 as charge.We want to measure Discharge and adapter current using Iout pin on the IC. for adapter charge current of 0..38 A and measured the Iout ( Iout and GND) to be 0.13V.

for battery discharge currrent of 6.285A we measured Iout of 1.02V.

How do we calculate the actual adapter current or battery discharge current by measuring Iout ?

Thank-you

Warm Regards

Harini krishna

  • Hi Harini,

    The IOUT pin's voltage gain is given below:

    Therefore, using Ohm's Law, you can plug in your sense resistor values to the equations below to calculate the adapter current and the battery discharge current.

    For the adapter current:

    IOUT = 40(ACP-ACN) = 40(Rac)(IBUS)

    For the battery discharge current:

    IOUT = 16(SRN-SRP) = 16(Rsr)(IDCHG)

    Using the equations above and assuming ideal 10 mΩ sense resistors, your measured IOUT pin voltages correspond to IBUS = 0.325 A and IDCHG = 6.375 A. The mismatch between the calculated currents and the actual currents could be due to small measurement inaccuracies or inaccurate sense resistors.

    Best regards,

    Angelo
