LM5176: Power saving mode

Part Number: LM5176
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5175,

Hi,

Do we have anything like power saving mode or power skip mode with a lower consumption from the chip but still keep the output voltage at the configured output level?

Thanks!

Antony

  • Hi Antony,

Thank you for reaching out.  If you consider the skip mode, please consider the LM5175 which can be set to operation in DCM.  There are a lot of applications already used the LM5175.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Youhao,

Thanks for your comments.  May I know if LM5175 is p2p with LM5176 as a drop-in replacement?  Any schematics modification is involved?

    Thanks!

    Antony

  • Hi Antony,

Yes, they are basically drop-in replacement, but you do need to change a few components.

    • The RT resistor value should be changed, because the oscillator programming is different.  Please use the design calculator to help you choose the new RT resistor, such that your circuit operates at the same switching frequency.
    • You may need to change the resistor between input line and VISNS pin to 2k, and reduce the capacitor from the VISNS to GND to less than 100pF or simply delete it.
    • You also need to change the MODE pin resistor to either 93.1k or directly tie it to VCC to set the IC to only operate in CCM.  Installing 93.1k will enable the hiccup mode under over current condition, and connecting to VCC will disable the hiccup mode.

The rest of the circuit can remain the same.

    Thanks,

    Youhao
