BQ25895: Turn Off PMID

Part Number: BQ25895

Hello,

We are developing an application where we need to turn off the PMID output at will by a host while being powered from battery and USB, is such functionality available in the bq25895? If it is not builtin in a legitimate way, is there some kind of workaround that we could implement by making the host modify the configuration registers without using additional hardware (e.g.: a load switch) in the output?

Regards,

  • Hi,

In charger mode, PMID is the power input of the charger, so it can't be turned off if charging is needed.

    Thanks,

    Ning.

  • Ning,

Thanks for the response. I'm not sure I totally understand your point. We are going to be using the PMID pin as output at all times. The battery will power a load connected to the PMID and the USB connected to VBUS will also power the PMID, pretty much like the simplified schematic from the datasheet.

We want to be able to turn off and on the PMID output at will, is that at all possible by software without using an external switch between the load (the phone in case of the image above) and PMID?

    Regards,

  • Hi,

The short answer is no. The BQ25895 is unable to force PMID voltage to 0V.

    Thanks,

    Ning.
