BQ24070: Input standby current to high

Part Number: BQ24070

Hi,

We are using BQ24070 and we are facing a problem.

Starting condition:

No input source, no load.

After connecting the battery the input standby current is about 200uA an rises in a couple of minutes up to 20-30mA.

Any hints to solve this problem?

Thanks,

Ma Bo

  • Did anything trigger the current increase?

Whats the battery voltage and OUT voltage?

  • No, there is no trigger.

Connect the battery without load and without Vin. The device starts with a standby current of approx. 200 uA. The current becomes higher within approx. 10 minutes, whereby the current fluctuates. A few seconds e.g. 4mA then 2mA then 6mA again, where it gets more and more. Vbat and Vout are the same at low currents, at approx. 10mA Vout is 10mV lower than Vbat. If the battery is briefly disconnected, the current consumption is immediately the same, but if the battery is disconnected for a longer period, the current consumption starts again at 200uA and then begins to increase again.

    Ma Bo

  • Hello,

Can you check for shorts on the board?

  • Hello,

No shorts on the board found but after re-soldering the BQ24070 the problem was solved. Maybe a short under the IC. Standby current is now 1uA. It works!

    Thanks a lot!
