Is it possible to use the BQ76940 in a configuration with completely separate discharge and charge ports like bq77905 can do? If so, what kind of measures should be taken to modify the Bq76940 datasheet diagram?

Hi Paolo,

Yes, the FET drive mechanism is similar and the same approach can be used as with BQ77905. See https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/slua772 for basic FET circuits. The BQ76940 does not have a LD pin, no connection is needed. Also realize the load detect feature of the BQ76940 is attached to the CHG pin, when CHG remains at GND it will not pull up and will not be effective at load detection. You may need some comparator or sampled division of the discharge output to an ADC input to determine if a load is present.
