BQ27542-G1: FCC is 0maH

Part Number: BQ27542-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: GPCCHEM, BQSTUDIO

Hi,Sir:

We had get a strange issue that the FCC read is 0mAH,

the RM capacitor is 0mAH also.,

we try to charge the battery, the voltage is increase,

the AI also had a value.

the smooth we disable.

the cycle count is about 100cycles.

the battery hadn't had the issue before.

need your kindly help to advice how cause the issue happen?

eg, which register or which part will cause it?

Thanks!

  • How did you select the chemistry id?  Did you use the GPCCHEM tool?  If so, share the GPC report with us.  Have you done the learning cycle successfully?
Also, provide a bqStudio log file so that we can have a batter understanding of your issue.

  • Dear Andy:

             This is MP product.

    some battery have the issue.

Need your help to check which cause the battery fail,

the BQstudio log and data memory file as attachment.

    Thanks!

  • What is the chemistry id that has been used? Can you share your golden image file? Thanks.
    Andy
  • Dear Andy:

           Chemistry id is 1354.

    Thanks!

  • I see in the log file, the cell voltage is around 4V when this issue occurs. Does this issue also occur when the battery cell voltage is lower (e.g 3.5V)?

    Andy
  • Dear Andy:

The fail battery is return from customer.

First. We had ship some more device, no this issue

Second, only this lot battery had the issue,at now it had 7sets,

and our customer report no charge,

Because the FCC is 0, so SOC should be 0%,

So our customer only seen the battery can't be charged reported by system.

the battery is 4.0V maybe just charge to the time,

I think this issue may happen when a condition meet,

Do you think what condition will cause the issue happen?

    attached the Gold image.

  • Hi,Andy:

        Another information for you.

We had another battery, when we power on device and got the battery information from the log,

the Unfiltered FCC value first is 0mAH, then after a minuters, the Unfiltered FCC is jump to 1299mAH,

the right Unfiltered FCC should be 4000mAH above.

I think the issue maybe why the unfiltered FCC reduce?

What cause the unfiltered FCC reduce?

    Smooth Enable register is disabled.

    Some information correct:

The Gauge IC should be 27541-G1

    Thanks!

  • Can you provide a bqStudio log for this battery you just mentioned?  Also, try enabling something.
I guess this issue should be related to the battery cells.
Can you provide a gg file for the failing battery and also another gg file for a good battery?  I want to check the differences between them.
    Andy
  • Dear Andy:

            Update the log.

    Thanks!

  • As far as I can tell, the root cause is the impedance of the failing batteries are too high compared with the good batteries.
I see the cycle count is 82 in the gg file and I believe these batteries have already cycled many times and it is likely they are worn out.
Try this. Program the golden image to the failing battery and do a power cycling.  I believe you should be able to see a non-zero FCC.
