PTR08060W: PTR08060W failures - looking for hints and ideas

Part Number: PTR08060W

Hi,

The query thread "PTR08060W failures - looking for hints and ideas" which is already posted in TI forum is related to my query as well.

We are having an issue with  PTR08060W. The output voltage of the module appears same as the input voltage (12V in our case).

Want to know what is the resolve steps suggested for the above thread. It is in locked state now.

To brief about our design, we feed 12V input to PTR08060W and generate 1.5V at the output.

When we measure the output voltage, it is 12V (Same as Input voltage).

Here are the details required about our design.

Inhibit pin is driven by the tri-state buffer with No pull ups on the line. Input of the Tri-state buffer is at ground level.

One 22uF ceramic capacitor (GRM21BR60J226ME39L) is used at the output and 2 Nos Tantalum capacitor (T530Y477M006ATE005) 470uF is used at the output. Their ESR value is 5m ohm @100kHz.

Please help to resolve the issue at the earliest possible as we are struck in testing.

If you need any other details, kindly let us know.

Thanks & Regards,

Sathiya Seelan Sekar

  • Hi,

I want to add my query the following details.

Please note we are also using the same module PTR08060WVD to generate other voltage rails 0.9V, 1.8V, 3.3V, 5V from 12V input.

Only the Module which is generating 1.5V & 1.8V output is giving the issue.

Rest of the modules with similar circuit design values (for Input, output caps & inhibit implementation same) are working fine.

We want to know what are the possible reasons for the output to go short with input. (ie. High side MOSFET getting failure by short).

Please help us to know the root cause of the issue & resolve the issue.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Sathiya Seelan Sekar

  • Hi Sathiya,

Can you provide a circuit schematic of your application? That would help in this analysis.

I also would like to request some switch node waveforms for more information. Can I get switch node waveforms from the good and bad rails?
    For example:

    • 0.9V output rail
    • 1.5V output rail
    • 5V output rail

The device itself has an exposed inductor, so please be careful with the switch node since accidentally shorting the node to ground will damage the part.

    Thanks,
    Alejandro

  • Hi Sathiya,

Can you provide an update to Alejandro's request for schematic and switching waveform?

    Regards,

    Jimmy

  • Hi Sathiya,

Alejandro and I haven't heard back from you for some time so we'll assume you were able to resolve the issue on your end.
