Setting Mint taper capacity based on Cells

What guideline should I use for setting min taper capacity. The cells have a capacity and you can have varying numbers in parallel, what equation would you use to determine min taper capacity. the documentation isn't really clear

Min Taper Capacity

During Primary Charge Termination detection, one of the three requirements is that the accumulated

change in capacity > 0.25 mAh per

Current Taper Window

for the bq2754x to start trying to qualify a

termination. It must be above this Min Taper Capacity before bq2754x starts trying to detect a primary

charge termination.

Normal Setting:

If the value selected is too high, then it can cause no termination or late termination

  • You should be fine with the default values for both of those parameters.  To my knowledge we have never had to modify them for any customers, but we leave them there for flexibility in case a strange situation arises where the defaults don't work.

The purpose of those parameters is to avoid false charge termination just because a battery is removed.  In that case the charger might cause the voltage to jump to 4.2V and current would be 0mA since a battery is no longer present, but that doesn't mean the battery is full.  Even a full battery will have some small level of current going in at all times, so that's how the gauge differentiates between an absent battery and a full battery.
