BQ40Z50-R2: About Cell Balancing Permanent Fail reference

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R2

Hi,

There was no reply on the following E2E.
https://e2e.ti.com/support/power-management/f/196/p/923171/3410743#3410743

Therefore, I would like to ask additional questions in a new thread.

1.
When the total CB time exceeds "CB:Delta Threshold", the PF alert bit becomes ”1”.
Is this understanding correct?
And Please tell me because the meaning of "Time Cell 1..4" is unclear.

2.
If 1. is correct, Where should I check the "total Time cell 1..4"?
The customer wants to test that the PFAlert bit is set when it exceeds the set "CB Delta Threshold" while comparing it with "total Time cell 1..4".

Best regards,
Yusuke

  • Hello Yusuke-san,

    1. When the total CB time exceeds "CB:Delta Threshold", the PF alert bit becomes ”1”. Is this understanding correct? And Please tell me because the meaning of "Time Cell 1..4" is unclear.

"Delta(Time Cell 1..4)" is referring to the cell balancing time difference of any of the cells, so Time Cell 1, Time Cell 2, Time Cell 3, Time Cell 4. Yes, if any of these cell balancing timers exceed CB:Delta Threshold — which at default it is 40 hours(Section 13.11.9.2 of TRM) —  in relation to the other cell timers, PF Alert bit sets to 1.

    2. If 1. is correct, Where should I check the "total Time cell 1..4"? The customer wants to test that the PFAlert bit is set when it exceeds the set "CB Delta Threshold" while comparing it with "total Time cell 1..4".

According to the Technical Reference Manual(Section 12.1.46), you can get the CB Timers for Cells 1-4 by sending a 0x0061 command to ManufacturerAccess(). However, I believe these would give you the same values as shown in the Register screen for Cell Balancing Times.
